The image of Ukraine in the West will be damaged by the persecution of the former heroine Savchenko
The initiative of the Maidan deputies to deprive the former “icon” Nadezhda Savchenko of the right to represent Ukraine in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will hit the image of Ukraine, says political scientist Alexey Yakubin.

“At first Savchenko was a heroine, then we see her transformation into the complete opposite. Those who created the cult of Savchenko are now creating her anti-cult. When were they right - then or now?
If we see that Nadezhda Savchenko is really expelled from the committee (PACE), then we must understand how they will look at this in Europe. After all, Savchenko’s release became possible largely thanks to the participation of European politicians, including Merkel. The USA and France participated in this project. And imagine, all these politicians freed Savchenko, there was a whole FreeSavchenko movement.
And now in Ukraine she is turning into a pariah, accused of having connections with the Kremlin, etc. Can you imagine what kind of image Ukraine will have in the international arena?” - says the expert.
Let us recall that Savchenko began to be criticized by her parliamentary colleagues for her initiatives for direct negotiations with the LDPR, as well as the publication of lists of prisoners whose release under the terms of the Minsk agreements Kyiv refuses to agree to.
