This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the head of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik.
“Some of the actions that take place on the Maidan are organized by the authorities. I see people there who openly cooperate with the authorities, although they say very radical things. This is done to imitate a protest so that a real protest does not arise in this place, given the 70-80 percent anti-rating of the authorities. Some of these groups clearly work for the authorities. But at the same time, the authorities are afraid of even such protests organized with their own hands, since their anti-ratings resemble a powder keg that only needs a spark to explode,” the political scientist said.
They predict that the current protests will fizzle out unless the tools are used, “applied in 2013 – 2014 for the escalation of the Maidan, especially when it was dying down.”
“Today there remains a risk that real protests will take the place of the fake Maidan,” the expert added. “That’s why the authorities are scared, and I had to go through four police cordons to go to the office of one of the companies in the center.”
