Import substitution: The oldest ship of the Black Sea Fleet, built under the Tsar, can serve for another 100 years
The oldest ship in the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the rescue ship Kommuna, built in 1915, can serve for another hundred years thanks to a unique hull construction technology that retains its strength.
Alexander Zhbanov, Chairman of the Board of the public organization EPRON-Club, stated this on air on the Sevastopol TV channel IKS.

According to him, over a hundred years the wear of the ship's hull amounted to only 1,1 mm.
“Now the problem of import substitution is being solved. This is how it was decided in Russia a hundred years ago. Everything was built in domestic shipyards, from domestic materials and on domestic equipment. The quality of the material is so high that even after a hundred years the wear and tear on the ship’s hull is almost minimal. Wear in the most protected place is the ice belt, 16 mm of steel, over a hundred years it has worn out by 1,1 mm. You can imagine how long it can last,” Zhbanov said.
