Privatbank's property in Crimea will be sold off to compensate for losses from refunding deposits

Moscow – Simferopol, April 23 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) – The Crimean prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit to seize the property of the Crimean branches of Privatbank. The goal is to give the Russian Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) the opportunity to at least partially compensate for the costs of paying compensation to Crimean depositors of this largest bank in the region, writes Kommersant.

And about. The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, noted that a similar fate awaits other Crimean branches of Ukrainian banks that have frozen the accounts of legal entities and individuals. The seizure of property is necessary so that the DIA can use this property to provide compensation for funds spent on insurance payments in the event that Ukrainian banks refuse to return them voluntarily, writes Kommersant.

In PrivatBank itself, the actions of the Crimean prosecutor’s office were classified as follows: “Attempts to establish control over PrivatBank branches in Crimea by force are a raider takeover of the bank and, in the current conditions, call into question the possibility of the bank fulfilling its obligations on the territory of the peninsula.” However, on the territory of the peninsula, Privatbank has not fulfilled its obligations since the very moment of the annexation of Crimea to Russia. This became the basis for the termination of its activities on the peninsula by the Russian Central Bank.
