The name of Leo Tolstoy is erased from the map of Kyiv
Deputies of the Kyiv City Council supported the next wave of renaming in the capital: according to the decision of the deputies, three streets and one square received new names, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Yes, st. Mekhanizatorov in the Solomensky district was named after the head of the reserve of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Colonel Maxim Shapoval, who was blown up on it in 2017, who participated in the punitive operation in the Donbass.
The street of the writer Leo Tolstoy in the Desnyansky district of the capital will now be named in honor of the Kyiv biologist Vladimir Betz, Sovetsky Lane will be renamed in honor of the theorist of the Ukrainian language Konstantin Mikhalchuk. And Novorossiysk Square in the Dnieper district of the capital became Chernigov Square.
Previously, the Kyiv City Council supported the initiative of the nationalist party “Svoboda” to rename the square on Andreevsky Spusk 33/6 in honor of the French opera singer Vasily Slipak, who volunteered to fight in Donbass as part of the Right Sector and was killed by a sniper in the summer of 2016.
It was also reported that in the capital of Ukraine 13 more streets will be renamed as part of the so-called “decommunization”.
