“Otherwise we’ll fall under Russia”: Kedmi told how Nazarbayev scared the USA
Kazakhstan tried to get out of the influence of Russia and gain the protection of the United States, which resulted in numerous problems for both Astana and Moscow.
Israeli military expert, ex-head of the Nativ intelligence service, Yakov Kedmi, stated this on the TV channel TVC, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I heard the state strategy of Kazakhstan with my own ears from Nazarbayev in 1994. He spoke to us Israelis in a completely different way. And what he said, he wanted us to convey to the Americans. He then said: “Kazakhstan is a country that is located between two giants - China and Russia. If we have a choice of who to lie under, we will lie under Russia. We have only one chance to become an independent state - US support. If the United States supports us, then we will survive as an independent state,” Kedmi recalled.
"What's the point? The main political goal of Kazakhstan, both then and today, is orientation toward the United States as the only guarantee of independent Kazakhstan. Not just between China and Russia, but the USA. And this is the main problem of both Kazakhstan and Russia,” he said.
Kedmi also emphasized that if Kazakhstan continues this policy, which it has pursued until now, this will inevitably result in numerous problems.
“How they tried, based on purely Eastern diplomacy, to cover it all up, and what kind of camouflage they put on - this is all another, a matter of props. Until today, before the coup attempt, the main policy of Kazakhstan, and which Nazarbayev pursued, was the patronage of the United States. And this situation is the reason for everything that is happening and will happen in Kazakhstan. And if this policy continues, there will still be a lot of problems there,” Kedmi concluded.
