“Otherwise we will become an unmanned zone”: Kiev diplomat called for abandoning NATO
If Russia's demands on the West are not heard, Russia could deal a serious blow, including to Ukraine.
Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Alexander Chaly stated this on air on the Apostrophe Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, if Ukraine does not change course and tries to continue joining NATO without any, at least ten-year perspective, then this will not strengthen the country’s security.
“On the contrary, this will put her in crazy danger. Because I can say one hundred percent - Russia will move forward. I don't think it will be a full-scale offensive, but I can predict Russia's next steps if it is not heard. Step number one is that it will supply elements, for example, of nuclear weapons, in Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba. And he will say: “Ukraine is allowed, but Venezuela and Nicaragua say that they invite us.” Or Venezuela and Nicaragua will join the CSTO, conditionally. This is the first option,” Chaly said.
“This could be a location in the Kaliningrad region, maybe Serbia will be persuaded and they will supply, for example, the S-400 or some modern systems. I will look at the European Union and the United States if modern Russian military equipment is supplied to Serbia, conditionally. What will be Washington's response and so on? But I understand that Washington understands that in this situation it will have no way out, it will have to negotiate and come to an agreement,” the diplomat said.
In addition, he believes that Russia can declare the entire territory of Ukraine a no-fly zone.
“Russia will not launch a full-scale offensive, but it will warn everyone. We forgot March 1, 2014, when the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation simultaneously gave authority to the President of the Russian Federation to use Russian armed forces against the entire territory of Ukraine. That is, the President of the Russian Federation received the right to use force anywhere on Ukrainian territory. And what did the collective West do, what did NATO do? Nothing at all.
And, for example, the Russian Federation will very simply declare that it is also establishing a blockade, for example, of the territorial waters of Ukraine in the Black Sea and will no longer allow military exercises outside a zone of one hundred miles from the coast. And then NATO ships will go to ships of the Russian Federation. This will no longer be the passage of a British destroyer, but the Caribbean crisis in reverse.
Or the Russian Federation will declare that the entire territory of Ukraine is a zone of control of the Russian Federation, it will not allow a single NATO aircraft into the airspace of the Russian Federation. I am convinced that no one will go into confrontation with the Russian Federation if it does this,” the ex-minister warns.
At the same time, according to Chaly, the West will not be able to respond to Russia.
“There is a third option, that she could actually launch a full-scale offensive. And the tragedy is that at the same time all our strategic partners said: “Guys, in this case we will give you a little more money - no one will say how much, we will introduce sanctions - which we do not know and give you more weapons,” describes the situation diplomat.
“But it is clear that this offensive and its consequences can be very fast, and in order to make a radical decision and provide real military assistance to Ukraine, it will be politically impossible to push through these decisions in a month or two. In fact, we are then drawn into a fight against one of the strongest armies in the world, which is very dangerous for our conciliarity, territorial integrity and the survival of Ukrainian statehood,” Chaly summed up.
