Poroshenko inauguration on blood

Kyiv, June 02 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin, Vladimir Mikhailov) – The inauguration of Petro Poroshenko will take place this coming Saturday, July 7, the Ukrainian authorities announced. The chocolate billionaire is in a hurry to take office, not bothering to find a compromise with Donbass, where the fighting does not subside, but only flares up with renewed vigor. Considering that several million citizens boycotted Poroshenko’s elections, all this does not add legitimacy to the inauguration ceremony, experts say.

“The presidential election was a bloody farce, and the inauguration was no better. The junta is committing some inappropriate actions that cannot be explained from the perspective of human logic. Kyiv continues to pretend as if nothing is happening and everything is going fine. In fact, people here are shelled and killed every day with mortars and heavy artillery. They signed up six million people as separatists and, at the same time, they think that they can be suppressed through force and blood. And after that it’s normal to reign, be president, rule the country and be so “European”. It is obvious that the rulers in Kyiv have lost touch with reality,” one of the leaders of the DPR, Miroslav Rudenko, tells Navigator.

“Let's start with the fact that the president entered the election campaign illegitimately. Accordingly, it is not worth saying that it is generally legitimate. Therefore, everything that happens to Poroshenko is in this sense illegitimate. This also applies to the inauguration. In general, I think that the concept of inauguration for such a ridiculous entity, which is now Ukraine and the Orange junta, is too much. Diplomats, blue ribbons, tailcoats - it's funny. This is inappropriate in principle when people are impoverished, and in war conditions it is blasphemy,” says Oleg Rodivilov, deputy director of the Ukrainian branch of the Institute of CIS Countries.

“It is unwise not only to hold the inauguration in conditions of war, but also to wage this war in general. The inauguration, as we see, will still be held. Moreover, before this Poroshenko will visit Poland, where he will meet with Obama, receive the necessary instructions and take office in order to continue this war. On the territory of Ukraine, the civil war gradually turned into a war of the United States against Russia,” states Crimean political scientist Alexander Formanchuk.

Kiev political scientist Sergei Tolstov disagrees with his colleagues. He hopes that, having taken office, Poroshenko can change Kyiv’s policy in the Donbass.

“Poroshenko is still a slightly different quality of power than Turchynov. Therefore, Poroshenko’s inauguration is a step in the right direction. This is better than people with unclear competence and who bear unclear responsibility,” Tolstov explains his arguments.

There is little hope of abandoning the military operation after the inauguration, argues political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky. He believes that Poroshenko could try to stop the conflict without waiting for the official assumption of office.

“They say that hope dies last. One can associate the hope with Poroshenko’s inauguration that when Poroshenko becomes president, he will stop the fratricidal war. Frankly, I was hoping he would do it once it was clear he was winning the election, but that didn't happen. Moreover, we heard a number of aggressive statements from him,” says Pogrebinsky.

“Perhaps this is due to the fact that he does not yet have the full scope of powers necessary to take a decisive step, which will definitely not please many in his circle and the sponsors of the new government in the person of the State Department, Brussels officials, etc.” , - the expert reminds about the dependence of the new leadership of Ukraine on Western countries.

In any case, Poroshenko should take the first step to end the war in the East of Ukraine, says political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko.

“We just need to withdraw the troops, then start negotiations. First we must stop the fighting. After all, it was Turchynov and Yatsenyuk - Poroshenko’s accomplices - who attacked Donetsk, and not Donetsk against them. They must withdraw their troops,” reminds Ishchenko.
