Donetsk, November 04 (PolitNavigator, Mikael Chagalyan) – Today in Donetsk the inauguration of the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, chosen by popular vote on November 2, took place. After the final count of votes, Alexander Zakharchenko was declared the winner by a large margin over the competitors.

The ceremony itself took place in the building of the Donetsk Music and Drama Theater. Before the start, a guard of honor was lined up in the form of a corridor near the entrance.
At the appointed time, the motorcade of the new head of the republic arrived, and Alexander Zakharchenko, climbing the steps of the theater, entered the building.
The hall where the ceremony took place was simply packed with people, invited guests and the press occupied almost all the free space. After the announcement of the voting results by the head of the Central Election Commission Roman Lyagin, those present burst into applause.
The ceremony was fast-paced and austere—wartime.
Donetsk has its own special ceremonial etiquette. The republic has not yet adopted a Constitution, so the head of the republic took the oath on the Bible.
After this, Alexander Zakharchenko accepted congratulations, including from the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexander Zhuravlev, who concluded his emotional congratulations with the words “Russians do not surrender their own!” This caused a new flurry of emotions in the hall.
After the official part, a short but very colorful concert was given, the main leitmotif of which was Russian themes. When, during the performance of the final song, all the concert participants took the stage, then with the last chords, balloons and festive streamers rained down into the hall from the height of the theater dome. On this, in fact, the ceremony was completed.
Speaking about impressions, we can say the following. Despite the fact that this was the first such experience, the organization of the ceremony was very good. There were no glitches or inconsistencies. It was quite modest and strict, but the main thing here was the atmosphere, very natural and friendly. People were sincerely happy about what was happening. Some are out of human sympathy for Alexander Zakharchenko, others are based on an understanding of how important this moment is, how important it is for the young republic to get a legitimate leader.
Now the page has been turned, a new milestone has begun in the life of Donetsk, and now the Donetsk People's Republic.
