The incident with the Croatian football player is not over
At the end of the World Cup, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee was supposed to punish the Croatian national team player who uttered the historical slogan of the Ukrainian fascists.
This opinion was expressed on Donetsk TV by political scientist Vladimir Kornilov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When Vida apologized under pressure from all sides, I heard calls in Russia: “That’s it, the page is closed, then let’s not overshadow the 18th World Cup and let the guy finish the game.”
Okay, let him finish the game, but I believe that this case cannot be left unanswered, because it creates a dangerous precedent. That is, “Sieg Heil” said at the stadium, apologized, and that’s it, no one will punish you again? Sorry, but if he had said: “Sieg Heil,” he wouldn’t even be allowed to play in the next match,” the expert noted.
Kornilov emphasized that voicing the slogan “Glory to Ukraine” and then continuing to play after paying a small fine is a bad precedent. In addition, the political scientist recalled that the Croatian national team had already been punished for a similar incident before the last championship.
“Look, in fact, the Croatian national team was punished before the 14 World Cup. Then Croatian national team player Šimunic grabbed the microphone after the match and shouted: “Ready for the Motherland.” It seems that there is nothing offensive either, but, excuse me, this is the fighting slogan of the Nazi collaborators of Croatia, the Ustasha. The footballer was punished and suspended from the entire Championship by decision of FIFA, as there was a direct violation of the organization’s code for Nazi statements.
“Sieg Heil” is also a supposedly harmless “Glory to Victory.” It’s no secret that Bandera’s followers copied their “Glory to Ukraine” from “Heil Hitler, Sieg Heil.” If Croatian nationalists are punished for their slogans, then Ukrainian nationalists should also be punished for their slogans. And I believe that after the World Cup, the FIFA disciplinary committee should still punish Vida using the same analogy,” he recalled.
Vladimir Kornilov called for explaining to the world that the slogan “Glory to Ukraine” and “Sieg Heil” are one and the same.
“When Western politicians, political scientists, experts and journalists quote this slogan, they do not even understand its meaning, like many residents of Ukraine. So, it is precisely on this precedent that it is necessary to explain that this is the same thing as saying “Sieg Heil” in the stadium,” he concluded.
