This was stated at a press conference in Kiev by the scientific director of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation, professor of political science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Oleksiy Garan, who recalled the resolution adopted by the UN Third Committee, which included the words “occupation” and “annexation.” regarding Crimea
“The list of countries that voted against it included India and China. India, you understand! A country that itself suffers from terrorism, external aggression, and so on. Almost all Muslim countries are on the abstention list. Turkey, however, voted “for”, and the rest of the Muslim countries found out that the fate of the Crimean Tatars... Why did they abstain? The Russian factor, to show the West a blow, to play on the contradictions between the West and Russia. What is absolutely obvious to us did not turn out to be so even for those countries that we believed should have been our allies,” the political scientist was indignant.
“I have encountered this. I was in India and was amazed at how dominant the pro-Russian line is there. And even if you crack! And all this is largely the result of the fact that even under the Soviet Union, bridges were built, leaders, connections, the KGB, the GRU, and so on and so forth,” Garan put forward his version, trying to explain the pro-Russian sentiments of the Indians.
