Inflation has eaten up Ukrainian small coins
Coins in denominations of 1, 2 and 5 kopecks, which will cease to be a means of payment in Ukraine from October 1, 2019, can be exchanged without restrictions and free of charge for coins and banknotes of other denominations over the next three years, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This is stated in the message of the National Bank of Ukraine on Facebook.
Thus, during the first year from the date of their withdrawal from circulation (until September 30, 2020 inclusive), they can be exchanged in all branches of Ukrainian banks, and within three years from the date of their withdrawal from circulation (until September 30, 2022 inclusive) at the NBU and authorized banks (Oshchadbank, PrivatBank, Raiffeisen Bank Aval).
According to the message, in addition, a gradual withdrawal of 25 kopeck coins from circulation will begin. Unlike 1, 2 and 5 kopecks, 25 kopecks. will remain in cash circulation for now, however, the coins that end up in banks will be withdrawn, and gradually there will be fewer and fewer of them.
Previously, the NBU announced its intention to issue coins with a face value of 5 UAH in 2019, and 10 UAH in 2020.
