Information person: It’s time for Russia to leave the state of a digital colony
The lack of an import substitution program in all areas, including software, is already becoming a direct threat to Russia’s security.
A well-known Russian entrepreneur in the field of information technology, Igor Ashmanov, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We urgently need import substitution, in all areas. We were talking about critical infrastructure, but 99 percent of our software there is Western. Everything there is absolutely terrible. Well, it’s the same with media platforms. Even if we don’t take smartphones, we have about half of all accounts in the country on Western servers, despite the fact that we have a lot of our own.
Here we need to run and jump to import substitution, and it should be noted that generally speaking, this does not require some kind of magic, but requires state will. The way this is happening in China shows that only will is needed,” said Ashmanov.
“The Chinese simply announced that by 2024 they must completely replace the entire technological line with imports, from processors and chips to software... I am absolutely sure that they will do this. Yes, they will still have some tails, but still. In our country, no one even sets such a goal. We have some kind of import substitution goal, which has just been postponed for three years. In government agencies!
That is, we lack government will and, as it were, an understanding that we have a catastrophe, that we are living in conditions of a catastrophe, and the pandemic has nothing to do with it. We are a digital colony, we need to get out of this state,” the expert added.
