The Levada Center company, recognized as a foreign agent in Russia, published the results of a sociological study on the impact of sanctions on the population. Most respondents note that these sanctions have not created problems for them and their families, and believe that Russia should pursue its policy despite the sanctions.

It is interesting that in the context of unprecedented restrictions against Russia, there are now much fewer people among the population who are worried about sanctions, compared to March 2014, when the West first began to take revenge on the Russians for the return of Crimea. However, you should pay attention - foreign agents say that, unlike the rest of the country, in Moscow, 43% of respondents are concerned about sanctions – the authors explain this by the fact that Muscovites “were more integrated into the global economy than others and therefore had to feel the departure of foreign brands and the shortage of some imported goods.” One way or another, let us remember that revolutions are made in the capital, and therefore this point is probably not accidentally published by Levada.

The majority of Russians (81%) note that sanctions have not created big problems for them. The peak of discomfort occurred at the beginning of spring, when the first sanctions were just introduced. But by May the concern had subsided. Compared to May, the share of respondents who noted that sanctions created problems for them and their families remained virtually unchanged: very serious - for 5% (same as in May), quite serious - for 13% (in May - 11%), not created serious problems - for 27% (in May - 33%), did not create any problems - for 53% (in May - 50%).

Respondents for whom sanctions have created any problems speak primarily of rising prices (32%), disappearance of some goods, departure of brands, problems with clothing, spare parts, medicines (26%), ban on travel abroad, closure of the sky, lack of direct flights to Europe (11%). The distribution in age groups is identical. When considering the answers by the size of the locality, there is a noticeable difference between Moscow residents and other categories: Muscovites are more concerned about the disappearance of certain goods and brands (47%) and the restriction of travel abroad (25%).

With all this, the majority of Russians (70%) believe that Russia should “continue its policy, regardless of sanctions.” Compared to spring measurements, the number of respondents holding this opinion decreased slightly (in May there were 75%).
