Foreign agents who defended the Hizb disbanded themselves “for show”
The organization “For Human Rights” announced its dissolution during a zoom conference.
According to the head of the organization, Lev Ponomarev, the organization was dissolved under pressure from the authorities, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In 2018, under pressure from the FSB, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation liquidated the legal entity of my organization “Movement for Human Rights.” This was completely illegal. I appealed to the European Court, but in response I created an unregistered organization. But now a new law has appeared, according to which we must register as a foreign agent, and all members of the organization must recognize themselves as foreign agents. It turns out that I’m setting up thousands of people,” Ponomarev explained the decision to dissolve himself to the Free Russia Forum YouTube channel.
He explains the persecution of the authorities by the fact that he defended the Network organization, the Jehovah's Witnesses sect, Hizb ut-Tahrir and other extremist organizations banned in the Russian Federation. The human rights activist called the initiation of criminal cases against them “the fascistization of the country.”
According to Ponomarev, all prominent human rights organizations operating in Russia are foreign agents.
“Nothing changes in my activities and in the activities of all human rights activists who are members of this organization,” he promised.
