Foreigners prefer to study at universities in the Russian Federation rather than in Ukraine - Kiev political scientist
Due to the incompetent actions of the Kyiv leadership, the children of politicians and officials of African states prefer to study in Russia rather than Ukraine.
Ukrainian political scientist Oleg Sahakyan stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“During the years of independence, we completely missed the African direction. We once had a “wonderful reform” when we reformed our military education system. And military schools were closed.
And what effect did we have in Africa? All the children of presidents, prime ministers, deputies, and so on went to study in Russia. Because it was an honor to study with them in military institutions, primarily post-Soviet ones. And they went to Russia.
We lost money, diplomatic influence, and so on. This, it would seem, has something to do with geopolitics, but no, it directly relates,” he worried.
Sahakyan added that the same situation is in science - there are practically no branches of Ukrainian universities abroad, because no one wants to study in them.
“And in the scientific field, do we have university branches in Africa? And they had every opportunity. I even know how African countries approached our universities.
Do you know where we have the only branch of a Ukrainian university abroad? In Yerevan. Ternopil University, if I'm not mistaken. It’s painful to watch, because the rector there, being an Armenian, just likes this university, and he’s been dragging everything on himself for years,” the Ukrainian complained.
“This is actually a grassroots volunteer initiative. Because it would have died a long time ago. They give him the premises for free, because his existence is not economically justified. We are not using this potential,” the political scientist concluded.
