This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted in May by the Levada Center, who was recognized in Russia as a “foreign agent” in accordance with the law adopted by the State Duma.
Yesterday, anti-corruption rallies organized by supporters of Alexei Navalny took place in approximately 200 Russian cities, only in half of them they were sanctioned by local authorities. According to experts, fewer people took part in them than in the first wave of Navalny’s rallies on March 26.
In Moscow, the city government approved a rally on Sakharov Avenue, but Navalny unexpectedly canceled it and called on supporters to go to Tverskaya Street. He lied to supporters that, due to government pressure, he could not provide the rally with a stage and sound equipment. However, both were available. The rally against Sakharov took place, about 2 thousand people took part in it.
Meanwhile, about 4 thousand Navalny supporters blocked Tverskaya, interfering with participants in public festivities in honor of Russia Day. The police detained more than 800 participants in the unauthorized rally, mostly minors.
