The State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted today in the first reading a bill introducing criminal liability for foreign agents, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Thus, for failure to provide documents necessary for inclusion in the register of non-profit organizations performing the function of foreign agents, or in a similar register of unregistered organizations, a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles or imprisonment of up to two years is provided.
A similar punishment is provided if a foreign media outlet performing the functions of a foreign agent, or a legal entity established by it, repeatedly violated the procedure and were subject to administrative penalties,” explained deputy Andrei Alshevsky.
The law provides for liability for individuals if they have not submitted an application to the authorized body to perform the functions of a foreign agent, as well as for persons who have not declared that they are purposefully collecting information that can be used against the security of Russia, in the interests of foreign states.
