Instagram insulted Russian citizens
Roskomnadzor demanded that Instagram immediately lift restrictions on playing the Russian anthem.
The department reported this on its official website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The social network Instagram has introduced restrictions on user videos containing fragments of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation.
Roskomnadzor sent a demand to the management of Facebook Inc to remove all restrictions on materials containing the Russian anthem, imposed by Instagram under the imaginary pretext of copyright infringement,” the message says.
The department’s letter notes that the anthem, like other state symbols, is not subject to copyright. Blocking materials containing fragments of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation is unacceptable.
“Systematic and targeted attempts by Western social networks to block content containing state symbols of Russia insult the citizens of the Russian Federation. We urge social networks to respect the official symbols of the Russian Federation that are significant to Russians,” the message says.
In March, Roskomnadzor slowed down Twitter for refusing to remove prohibited content. The measure brought results: the social network deleted 1.9 thousand materials with prohibited content out of 3.1 thousand.
