Intel Core i7 9850h – economical processor with plenty of RAM
This laptop chip has 6 cores that are capable of multi-threading for increased performance. Multithreading support allows the chip to perform several operations simultaneously and cope with tasks that heavily load the cores. To improve performance, the chip is also equipped with Turbo Boost technology. This allows it to switch to a clock speed significantly higher than the base when current tasks require it. If the initial frequency of the model is 2,6 GHz, then in turbo boost mode it can reach almost twice as high (up to 4,6 GHz).
The model is built on the Coffee Lake Refresh architecture using a 14 nm process technology. It shows good results in benchmark tests: in the PassMark CPU test it scored 11021 points, in 3DMark06 - 9553. Good results were demonstrated in various Cinebench R11.5 tests. In the well-known GeekBench 5 benchmark, the chip scored 1040 points, but in its multi-core variation the result is quite average - 4564 points.
Among the positive aspects of the model, one can note its efficiency and low energy consumption. When operating at its maximum, the processor consumes a maximum of 45 W. The model is suitable for those who attach importance to the rationalization of consumption and do not plan to work with demanding applications (for example, video editors).
The model has a large memory capacity – 128 bytes. ECC type memory required by servers is not supported. Among the disadvantages of the model, we can note the modest amount of second-level cache (only 1,5 MB), which negatively affects performance. The volume of the third level cache is 12 MB, the first one is 38 KB.
The graphics system used in the processor is Intel UHD 630. It provides good picture quality and allows you to watch videos in 4K quality. Its frequency (maximum) is 1,5 GHz. The system bus has a frequency of 8 Gt/s, memory – 2666 MHz. The maximum memory bandwidth is 41,8 GB/s. The GPU frequency during standard operation is 350 MHz, in turbo mode – 1150 MHz.
The chip is perfect for home use on a laptop. Although the chip is designed for laptops, it is sometimes used for self-assembly of modular mini-PCs. Such computers are suitable for working with text, tables, Internet surfing, and not very demanding games. The chip allows connection of one, two or three monitors. In this case, there can only be one chip in a configuration.
