The people are getting used to worsening conditions, but they are turning their illness into a feat.

The point is not that this science in Ukraine has reduced social and sociological responsibility. And the fact is that in this case it is possible to assess from the outside what state of aggregation the population was brought into in the territories remaining under the control of Kyiv.

This is already the 22nd wave of the project “Ukraine at War” - the sociological group “Rating” conducted another study on the mood and economic situation of the population on June 1-2, 2023.

Assessment of the situation

Research reports that there are not many adequate people left, approximately every 8th: 71% of respondents believe that things in Ukraine are moving in the right direction, 13% have the opposite opinion, and another 16% were unable to definitely assess the situation. Compared to last summer, the number of those who believe that Ukraine is on the right path has decreased, and the number of those who are undecided has increased.

Economic situation

Despite the 71% of optimists who are satisfied with Ukraine’s movement into the abyss, 59% have felt a deterioration in their own economic situation over the past six months (last year there were 75%), for 35% it has not changed, but there were 6% who felt improvement.

And the situation in Ukraine as a whole is assessed by three-quarters of respondents as worsening - 75%, while Ukraine is going the right way... 14% say no changes, 8% say it has improved.

This is also the result of instilling “reform values” - a technique characteristic of capitalist society: a person must be confident that his difficult situation is only his personal problem, and for others and in the country as a whole, the situation is better, and positive thinking is needed, then Everything will be fine. But in today's Ukraine it is not even a capitalist system. This is some kind of state feudalism with elements of the slave system.

Ukrainians are great optimists, and optimism is growing despite objective reality. While stating the fact that the situation in the country is worsening, the overwhelming majority, 35% hope for improvement, 28% think that nothing will change, 26% expect it to worsen (last year it was 36%!). And for themselves personally - 31% hope for an improvement in their personal economic situation, 39% believe that there will be no changes, 17% know the truth - the situation will worsen.

There are more optimists in Western Ukraine. Perhaps they are pleased to look at the “swindlers” and think, “it’s good that this is not with us.”

We must pay tribute to propaganda and information tranquilizers, they know how to work with the masses: 95% of respondents are confident that Ukraine will be able to repel a Russian attack, but about 60% believe that this will require quite a long time: 25% count on a period of more than a year (their number growing, and more often these are young people), 37% - six months to a year, and 20% - hope for success in a few months. And 20% were undecided. There is an increase in the number of those who estimate the time frame for victory as long (more than a year).

And such optimism, if it is not the work of sociologists, helps to live with hope. It doesn't matter that disappointment may happen later. The important thing is “here and now”. And the West is counting on this as a military-political factor.

A decrease in the share of those who feel their own economic situation is deteriorating and those who expect it to worsen does not indicate a change in the situation for the better. Getting used to the situation occurs. The habit of poverty sets in quickly. A person gets used to everything.
