Iran is pushing Trump down a slippery slope
Today's Iranian missile attack on American military bases was of a demonstrative and symbolic nature.
The famous Russian international political scientist Fyodor Lukyanov writes about this in his Telegram channel.
“Iran’s response to the liquidation of Qassem Soleimani - a strike on two bases in Iraq where there are American troops - puts the region on the brink of a major war. Tehran acted carefully - the goal was clearly demonstrative, symbolic, and not a desire to inflict real damage. Nevertheless, Trump is faced with a choice - to limit himself to the same ritual actions and battle cries or to raise the degree of retaliation. This is an extremely slippery slope, when everything depends less on the will of this or that politician,” writes Lukyanov.
“Trump himself is not a warrior at all, just as Obama, whom he hated, was not a warrior. But both may find themselves in the same position as a milk mushroom that has climbed into the back of the truck, which has its own rules. Being the head of a hegemonic country with a tradition of aggressively asserting one’s own interests, it is almost impossible to stay out of war,” the expert emphasizes.
At the same time, he noted that the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, demanded that the White House administration stop provocations against Iran.
“And this is immediately after Iran attacked American targets. Everything turns out strangely. Pre-war situation in a cold civil war,” sums up Lukyanov.
As PolitNavigator reported, tonight the Iranian armed forces launched missile strikes on US military bases in Iraq. The attack began at 1:20 am - it was at this time that a few days ago a car with the “second person” of the Iranian state, General Qassem Soleimani, was blown up by an American drone.
