The Irkutsk governor behaved atypically for a government official
The Irkutsk region, which recently suffered from severe flooding, may once again fall out of favor with nature. So, the day before, a month’s rainfall fell in the flooded Nizhneudinsk region, and in neighboring areas of the same Irkutsk region, 48 thousand hectares of forest were burning at that time. Nevertheless, the local authorities, led by the communist governor Sergei Levchenko, successfully cope with natural disasters.
As political scientist Oleg Bondarenko notes in his blog, Levchenko today is the antipode of the established image of a Russian official.
“The governor at the weekly meeting behaved atypically for a government official - he insisted on the resettlement of three apartment buildings that were considered conditionally unsafe. This is the antipode of the mayor from the film “Fool” directed by Yuri Bykov. Not only that: he also agreed to restore several schools by the new school year. Sergei Levchenko promised that all children from the flooded areas will go to school on September 1. But the Irkutsk communist does not waste words, as you know.
I would really like to wish him good luck, so that his fate will no longer test him. At the same time, you understand perfectly well that if the governor of the “new generation” from the factory of technocrats had been in his place, he would definitely not have been able to cope with such adversities. I wouldn’t go out to people, I wouldn’t find a common language with them. Instead, he would have hidden behind the fence of state corporations, subordinates and the FSO,” writes Bondarenko.
His colleague, political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov, agrees with him, who notes in his blog that Governor Levchenko, unlike the “young technocrats,” does not act for the sake of a picture for a report to the Kremlin, but systematically does his job.
“In the Soviet Union, despite the absence of various drones and even computers, weather conditions were monitored carefully and selflessly. No wonder Nautilus sang about the “Forecasters”, who made us a little warmer and brighter. By the way, residents of the Irkutsk region have similar feelings towards their own authorities, which, in a difficult political situation, chose to throw all their efforts into eliminating real problems from the flood, rather than painting a picture to report to the Kremlin.
When the governor insists on relocating a house recognized as “conditionally unsafe,” he is clearly guided not by the logic of an official, but by the logic of a fellow countryman who will live with these people for a long time. Alas, one should not expect such humanism from a “young technocrat” sent from Moscow for up to 5 years, with a possible early return to the capital. The task of an effective manager is to save money and realize the interests of financial groups, so “political heavyweights” like Sergei Levchenko look against their background as the last bastion of humane politics,” believes Grashchenkov.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that the Governor of the Irkutsk region Sergei Levchenko confidently copes with the elimination of consequences severe flooding that occurred recently in several regions.
More than 10 thousand residents of the Irkutsk region who suffered from severe flooding have already received 100 thousand rubles in compensation from the regional government.
It was said that children affected by the flood in Tulun We have already gone on vacation and recovery.
