Ishchenko: “Kyiv will have to throw a fit again because of SP-2”
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, who arrived in the United States for negotiations, no matter how much he wishes and in any case, will not in any way influence the American-German decision on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this in an interview with the International News Agency Sputnik, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Zelensky may have such conversations that after he stamps his foot on the old man, he will get scared, hide under the bed, cry and cancel Nord Stream.” But the fact is that Nord Stream does not begin with Biden and does not end with Biden. And Biden cannot cancel it, because Nord Stream is a joint venture of a large number of Russian and European energy companies.
Secondly, Biden has already sworn off even fighting against Nord Stream, so he agreed with Merkel on mutual understanding. And Merkel came to Zelensky, explained what the joint understanding was, and Kyiv was already hysterical about the fact that it had once again been betrayed and abandoned. Maybe he’ll be hysterical again,” Ishchenko said.
He added that even sanctions against Nord Stream 2 will not give anything.
“Theoretically, the United States could impose sanctions against Nord Stream again later. But the fact is that US sanctions after the gas pipeline has already been built cannot be effective in the sense that they cannot affect the laying of pipes, delays in insurance of the ships that lay it, that is, from a purely technical point of view, they cannot interfere. They can only be of the nature of unhealthy competition with their European partners. That is, this will no longer affect us and will not affect Russia and Gazprom, it will affect European partners much more, and it is unlikely that this will cause much joy in Europe,” the political scientist explained.
