Ishchenko: Kyiv will now have to recognize the LDPR
Russia's recognition of the LDPR opens up great opportunities for the young republics, which will help force Kyiv to recognize the sovereignty and independence of its former territories.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the Voice of Moscow radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now Russia has the opportunity to legally have troops and put legal pressure on Ukraine with the help of these troops. Now it is possible, for now theoretically, to move the front line away from Donetsk and Lugansk, go to the borders of the regions and try to fix this in an international legal document in which the LDPR will be at least de facto recognized.
Because now Russia, which has recognized these republics, can calmly say, not within the framework of the Minsk agreements, but based on the norms of international law, that Ukraine should not negotiate with them through Moscow, and if it wants, then let it negotiate directly,” said He.
Rostislav Ishchenko emphasized that now Kyiv has no choice but to recognize the LDPR sooner or later.
“And since the military defeat of Ukraine is not a matter of principle, but of time, Kyiv will have to conduct such negotiations. He may not recognize the LDPR de jure, but by negotiating with them, he will recognize them de facto. And in the future - how it turns out.
But I think Ukraine will no longer be able to get out. Because if it needs a new truce or peace, then one of the conditions of the republic can simply put forward its recognition.
This is not something extraordinary - this is how the winning independence movements in the war always recorded their victory. If the former metropolis wants peace, then it must recognize the independence of the former territories. Similarly, the United States made peace with Great Britain after the Revolutionary War. So here an additional opportunity opens up for the republics,” the expert concluded.
