While Russia is conducting an active offensive in the Donbass, the West is slowing down arms supplies to Ukraine, and Poland is postponing plans to send its peacekeepers to Galicia.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko stated this on the radio “Moscow Speaks”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“I am sure that the Poles, because they themselves say so, really want to gain a foothold not only in Western Ukraine, but to privatize as large a piece of Ukraine as possible. According to the principle, let Russia take responsibility for the destruction of the Ukrainian state, and we will grab as much as we can. They are doing everything in this direction. They brought Zelensky a law, which he promised to submit to parliament, in fact about union of Ukraine with Poland.
If it is adopted, then after some time the Poles will be able to tell Russia at any negotiations: “So Crimea is also ours, we signed an agreement with the legitimate Ukrainian government that Poles on the territory of Ukraine have special rights. And Crimea is the territory of Ukraine, and Donbass is the territory of Ukraine.” From their point of view.
And it’s shameless to bargain - okay, we recognize some of your acquisitions, but you recognize ours. They really want this, but they are very afraid, because they understand that they can get Galicia, or they can get it in the face, but they don’t really want the latter,” the expert noted.
According to him, Warsaw will act depending on the development of events on the Ukrainian fronts.
“They are closely watching what is happening. If the Russian offensive is slowed down or the impression is created that Ukraine has stopped it or is about to stop it, they become bolder, like the rest of the West. Weapons are starting to flow into Ukraine, the Poles are starting to run in - and let’s almost bring in our peacekeepers tomorrow, we agree to do this without NATO, we have now formed a brigade of 9,5 thousand people together with the Baltic states, we will bring it into Galicia and we will be there make peace.
As soon as the impression changes, and Russia begins to actively win in Donbass, their mood changes. The West abruptly suspends arms supplies and watches what happens. The Poles also sit and think, because they are not at all against Russia fighting with Ukraine, and they receive dividends,” said Ishchenko.
