Ishchenko believes that Russia must tolerate anti-Russian moves by Kazakhstan
At the moment, the preservation of the EurAsEC and the CSTO and their integration potential is much more important for Russia than minor scandals with its allies.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko spoke about this on radio “Moscow Speaks,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are quite calm about the fact that our allies in the CSTO and EurAsEC, where the papers have been signed, unlike China, with which there are only oral agreements and no agreements that would provide for the same integration, nevertheless, we are with China and in Economically and militarily, we interact much more effectively than with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan or even Kyrgyzstan.
Or with Tajikistan, where our military base stands and actually guarantees its existence. Why do we turn a blind eye to this? For us, the preservation of the EurAsEC and its integration potential is more important than minor scandals with our allies.
Okay, today we will come forward and say, “Aren’t you ashamed? With one hand you help circumvent sanctions, and with the other you flirt with the Americans.” For this reason, they are flirting, to help us circumvent sanctions, and we need to somehow balance this, otherwise they will also come under attack, and they are not as strong as us. They will simply be swept away and crushed.
We need to preserve these alliances, this potential and slowly develop it,” the expert explained.
He compared these concessions to Russia's energy policy in the 1990s.
“Just like it was with gas and oil in the 1990s. Russia made huge concessions in order to retain European markets and gas transit to Europe, and this was justified over time. Everything we have now is thanks to the fact that Russia made these concessions and preserved transit, markets, trade and increased Europe’s dependence on Russian energy resources over the past 30 years,” Ishchenko said.
