Exception to the rule: the SBU intercepted the illegal export of air defense systems to the Middle East
The SBU announced the prevention of the export from the country of components and parts for the Osa-AK-M anti-aircraft missile system, planned for shipment to the Middle East without obtaining permission from the authorities.
Commenting on the incident, former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Zhuravko noted that this fact of interception is rather an exception in the flow of materials of military significance leaving the country.
“This is not the first time that spare parts from military equipment or some kind of missile launchers have been stolen. We remember how Ukraine almost sold equipment to North Korea, and then suddenly something went wrong for them. For some reason these thefts are rarely noticed, I think they happen almost every day, and someone earns a lot of money, because everything is on stream there. Therefore, this does not surprise me,” Zhuravko told PolitNavigator.
Let us recall that in 2017 a scandal broke out after the American press reported that the engines installed on North Korean strategic missiles were very similar to those that were once produced at the Ukrainian Yuzhmash plant.
Subsequently, in a prank by Russian pranksters, the director of the Ukrainian Yuzhmash spoke about the smuggling of engines to the DPRK.
