“Syrian rebels are faced with a new military reality against the backdrop of the Russian air campaign,” writes the American publication. “Russian airstrikes, more powerful than the Syrian army could carry out, hit several key areas, including rebel bases along the border with Turkey. This area was considered relatively safe for the rebels because the Syrian Air Force could not launch air strikes there.”
The New York Times admits that various factions of the so-called. moderate Islamists, as well as radicals, are forced to evacuate their bases and ammunition depots. The rebels are calling on their regional backers, such as the Gulf states and Turkey, to increase support, including more modern weapons such as anti-aircraft missiles.
