Spain vows not to recognize Kosovo separatists
Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borel said that Madrid does not intend to revise its policy regarding the illegally seized region of Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia, and will still not recognize the Albanian separatists.
Borel said this after a meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
Spain is one of five EU countries that have officially refused to recognize the false “state”.
Borel has recently also headed EU diplomacy - this happened after the mandate of Federica Mogherini ended.
Kosovo was the main topic of negotiations between the Spanish minister and Brnabic. The Serbian side recalled that Albanian separatists disrupted the implementation of the painful compromise agreements of 2013 concerning the rights of the Serbs of the region.
“I expect that the EU will this time give guarantees regarding the agreement under which it has its signature,” the Serbian prime minister said, noting that Mogherini did not exert sufficient influence on Pristina to force them to comply with the agreements.
She recalled that Belgrade refuses further negotiations with the Albanians until the economic blockade of the Serbian enclaves of Kosovo is lifted.
