Missile testing and US handouts - Zelensky charts the course for the development of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Vladimir Zelensky promised to significantly increase the power of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the near future. He said this at the celebrations held in Odessa, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The crews of ships and boats and naval aviation, maritime units - we will never allow anyone to destroy the Black Sea security system. And our state goal is to systematically increase your power.
We know how in past years the Ukrainian Naval Forces, in many senses of the word, tried to destroy and sink. I won’t just not allow this. I will do everything to ensure that the Ukrainian fleet is a model of power, modernity and becomes the real pride of Ukraine. So that we can be a maritime power not in distant memories of the past, but in the real present and near future,” the president said.
Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that the most important areas in achieving this goal are testing new Ukrainian missiles, as well as receiving military assistance from Western “partners.”
“The most important are the state tests of the Ukrainian Neptune missile system. Its adoption will make us an even stronger player in the Black and Azov Seas. Also in the near future are the receipt of the Island and Mark VI boats as part of military assistance from the United States of America,” he added.
The Ukrainian president also noted that one of the most important tasks is the social security of sailors. As part of this, military personnel who fled Crimea in 2014 will receive 70 apartments.
“I will do everything to make Ukrainian sailors feel that they are real superheroes that Ukraine really needs,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky once again congratulated “the brave and indestructible people who stand day and night in defense of the south of our country.”
“Those who, to quote the march of the Navy, “will stand with their breasts for the Black Sea, our wonderful and magical Crimea.” These are our Ukrainian military sailors. We are proud of you. We thank you,” Ukrainian President.
Let us recall that the Ukrainian Navy did not conduct a single naval battle during the Russian Spring, allowing the reunification of Crimea with Russia without a fight.
During the provocation in the Kerch Strait, the crews of the Ukrainian Naval Forces boats surrendered without a fight, and after being released through an exchange they were declared heroes, showered with honors and awarded apartments.
