Hysterical persecution of the UOC-MP in the Ukrainian media has reached alarming proportions - expert
Ukrainian media ignore attempts by the Orthodox Church to convey its position regarding quarantine measures and are waging a campaign of slander - not just against one of the faiths, but against Christianity as a whole.
Political scientist Alexander Semchenko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There is a campaign going on not just against the UOC-MP, but also against Orthodoxy and Christianity in general, not only in Ukraine, but also, for example, in Greece, where the metropolitan was arrested for conducting a service.
And they write not only about the Kyiv and Pochaev Lavras. Regional media are also participating in the campaign. The epidemic has given a new reason for this campaign. For example, the OCU did not bring the Holy Fire to Ukraine and they present this as some kind of achievement. In fact, people massively visit churches of all concessions, but the media pay attention only to the UOC-MP.
At the same time, any attempts of the UOC-MP itself to explain its position are ignored. So, there was a press conference of one of the bishops of the Odessa diocese, who said that the church is not against observing precautionary measures, that it is only in favor of people standing in churches at a distance from each other and wearing masks.
But the media ignored this press conference, they ignore the statement of such a position that the church is only in favor of observing security measures. Such statements fall on deaf ears. The media unleashed anti-Orthodox hysteria.
Again some threats were made against Metropolitan Paul from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra. The Lavra, other monasteries and the UOC-MP as a whole are accused of being Putin’s agents, who set as their goal to kill as many Ukrainians as possible, so they need to be closed and destroyed.
People associated with Poroshenko are working on the topic of the Lavra, for example, Miroslav Oleshko, a man who sometimes “accidentally” meets Marina Poroshenko at a gas station…” said Alexander Semchenko.
