The source explained what Reznikov’s resignation means for Ukraine
The resignation of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov and his replacement with the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, General Kirill Budanov, which is now being talked about in Kyiv, may provoke problems with the supply of Western weapons.
Izvestia writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, citing its source in Kyiv.
He draws attention to the fact that Reznikov was responsible for negotiations with the West and agreed on the supply of more and more types of weapons, while Budanov does not have such contacts and competencies.
“Reznikov was called a tourist for his frequent trips abroad in Zelensky’s team. But jokes aside, personnel changes could provoke a pause in the most important issue for the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
However, political experts believe that personnel changes will not fundamentally change anything.
“Ukrainian defense ministers are sawing budgets and “selling face”, they really have no influence on anything. Zaluzhny and Zelensky, who receive direct instructions from Washington, have a certain apparatus weight. The rest act solely as extras.
Now the Americans have decided to pretend to fight corruption, and to do this they are changing the minister. I don’t see any other content in this story,” emphasized political scientist Dmitry Rodionov.
His colleague Dmitry Solonnikov shares a similar point of view.
“All key decisions about planning military operations, mobilization, and the work of the military-industrial complex are made in Washington. In Kyiv, these decisions are only being announced. Therefore, Reznikov’s resignation will not change anything. We see rotation within one bench: someone will move to the right, someone to the left. Globally, everything will remain the same,” Solonnikov is convinced.
