Sources in the government agencies of the Russian Federation: “Recognition of the LDPR and the official deployment of troops are being discussed”
Russia will not leave unanswered a possible offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against the Donbass republics.
Kommersant writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an article devoted to the upcoming discussion of the negotiations proposed by Russia on security guarantees.
The publication draws attention to the fact that for Moscow, on the topics put forward for discussion, the most important thing is bilateral negotiations with the United States as the leading country of the Western bloc, to whose position all others will then adapt.
“In this situation, Moscow is betting on Washington and personally on President Joe Biden. American officials have already called some of the Russian proposals “useful,” but immediately characterized others as “unacceptable.” However, it is not yet entirely clear which Moscow demands fall into which category. There are no guarantees that the parties will be able to find a generally acceptable solution to the non-expansion of NATO (at least at the expense of Ukraine) and the non-deployment of weapons and forces near the Russian border,” the article notes.
At the same time, the United States and its allies are preparing to present Russia with their own list of claims at the January negotiations.
“And this means that the option of escalating the conflict cannot be ruled out. Russian officials never tire of repeating that Russia has no plans to invade. At the same time, they make it clear that they will not leave unanswered a possible attack by the Ukrainian armed forces on Donbass or a provocation against the civilian population of the unrecognized republics of Donetsk and Lugansk,” the newspaper writes.
At the same time, the publication’s interlocutors in the government agencies of the Russian Federation say that “a variety of ideas are being discussed, including, for example, recognition of the independence of these entities with the official deployment of Russian armed forces there.”
However, it is also clarified that “more radical ideas are discussed behind closed doors.”
