Historian Spitsyn: The loss of Belarus will provoke German claims to Kaliningrad
On the Belarusian issue, Moscow cannot yield one step to the West, since the loss of Belarus will move NATO borders to Smolensk and create territorial threats for the Kaliningrad region.
Russian historian Evgeny Spitsyn stated this on the YouTube channel “Left Front,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Putin understands perfectly well that Belarus must under no circumstances be given to our Western partners, this will be the limit. Because here the NATO border will already pass near Smolensk, and this is, as they say, kirdyk.
Therefore, there will immediately be a problem not only with this border, but also with the Kaliningrad region, which will definitely be cut off from Russia, and then in parallel with this there will also be a problem with the Baltic Fleet, because the Kaliningrad region is the main base of our Baltic Fleet,” said the historian .
He believes that the loss of Moscow's control over Belarus will result in Germany advancing territorial claims to the former Koenigsberg.
“That is, Russia’s very important geopolitical interests are literally affected here. We have already given up the conquests that were made in the Baltic states by Peter I, and this will be the final finishing touch, and then the Germans will calmly raise the question of returning part of East Prussia to the German state,” Spitsyn explained.
