Historians ridiculed Ukraine's attempt to take credit for the Russian fleet's achievements
In Ukraine, they are trying to take credit for the merits of the Russian Imperial Navy - allegedly, the first ship to circumnavigate the world in the Russian Empire was the sloop Neva, commanded by a native of Ukraine, Yuri Lisyansky.
This is stated in a message from the press service of the Ukrainian Navy, published on social networks, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On August 5, 1806, the sloop “Neva” under the command of the Ukrainian Yuri Lisyansky entered the harbor of Kronstadt, completing the first circumnavigation of the world in the then Russian Imperial Navy, during which a number of geographical discoveries were made and a significant contribution was made to the development of world oceanography, ethnography and other sciences. It should be noted that I. Kruzenshtern on the sloop “Nadezhda” completed his circumnavigation two weeks later,” the Navy wrote.
In a comment to PolitNavigator, Kiev historian Alexander Karevin debunked the myths of Ukrainian propaganda.
“An attempt to emphasize Lisyansky’s “national” origin looks somewhat curious. Firstly, he is not a “Ukrainian” at all - at that time such a nationality did not even exist in theory. The Little Russians (together with the Great Russians and Belarusians) formed one Russian nation.
Secondly, Lisyansky is a Russian officer, a participant in two Russian-Swedish and one Anglo-Russian wars, by the way, one of the conquerors of Finland. Thirdly, Lisyansky is associated with his small homeland (he was born in Nizhyn) only during his childhood years. Even after retiring, he settled not in Little Russia, but near St. Petersburg. And he wrote his travel notes in the Russian literary language. And he corresponded with his brother in Russian.
As for his participation in the first Russian round-the-world expedition, then, of course, he played a significant role. Only this is a triumph of the Russian fleet. The fleet of the state to which modern Ukraine, through the mouth of its president, over the past few years has diligently said “farewell!” And since “goodbye”, then we should say goodbye to Lisyansky and many other outstanding figures of Little Russian origin,” the historian is convinced.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, a Kiev political scientist, having admitted that in Ukrainian history there is nothing but endless shame, lamentation and crying, in fact called for parasitism on the victories and achievements of Russia.
