The history of Novorossiya is being written today
The news that in Moscow, a group of political emigrants from Ukraine, one of the leaders of Novorossiya, Oleg Tsarev and everyone who has qualifications, decided to publish a textbook on the history of Novorossiya by September 1, caused a storm of negative emotions in Kyiv. Kyiv still does not want to notice that the South-East is still a front, it is a territory that has declared its vector, different from the vector of the rest of Ukraine. Knowledge is power, and the newly-minted Ukrainian fascists want to take this power away from the rebels. Well. I can’t even attempt a textbook yet, but I can teach a short course. Here he is.
It would be enough to say that the name Novorossiya itself is much older than the name Ukraine. It appeared on maps of Europe in 1764, and its center, the city of Ekaterinoslav, founded by the zeal of His Serene Highness Prince Potemkin-Tauride, was first called Novorossiysk. With this step, the Russian monarchs forever destroyed the historical division between ancient Russia and the Great Steppe. A wild field, which since ancient times was the habitat of another, nomadic civilization. The movement of the Slavic Empire to the south, towards the Black Sea, was continuous and historically inevitable. The Rurik princes also tried to gain a foothold on its banks, in their inheritance Tmutarakan. This was necessary to control the entire trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks.
However, without an empire with its incalculable human and military potential, it was impossible to even dream of conquering the Black Sea region. Neither Lithuania nor Poland had the strength or ability to lay claim to the Wild Field. And the Zaporozhye Army, the Zaporozhye kosh, could only occupy fortified fortresses on the Dnieper, and share winter quarters with the Crimean Tatars. The latter did not provide the opportunity to build anything and settle in the steppe until Rus' gave birth to a powerful state of the Slavs - the Russian Empire. This is important because during the period of the Muscovite kingdom the steppe was considered only as a distant line of defense for Moscow. And only Peter the Great abolished the kingdom and established the Empire, with the historical name Russian.
Rus', united with Little Russia, gave us the land that today decides its fate in the bloody war imposed by the Kyiv imperialists and colonialists. Due to the fact that the Bolsheviks, guided by their own views on the future, gave the territory of the Black Sea region to Ukraine. At the same time, the Bolsheviks were guided by the number of Ukrainians living there (for whom, again, the word Ukraine was new and unfamiliar). Ukrainians or, more correctly, Little Russians (they themselves call themselves Rus) ended up in Novorossiya just like the rest of the region’s inhabitants. Taking advantage of the wide opportunity and generous chance that fell to their lot thanks to the conquest of the Black Sea steppe by the troops of the empire.
Only the Russian Empire was able to oust the nomadic Cossacks and Tatars and give the most fertile, never-plowed steppes to farmers. They rushed here from all over the Empire. And not only the Empire. Here, in New Russia, there was New Serbia, Germans, Hungarians, South Slavs, Swedes, Danes, Greeks, Armenians, and Jews settled here. And, of course, Great and Little Russians. The region was given over for colonization to all the peoples who belonged to the great Euro-Asian empire. Due to the proximity of Little Russia, which until the end of the XNUMXth century was called the Zaporozhye Army, many Ukrainians settled here. It was this fact that became decisive when the Bolsheviks determined the boundaries of the Ukrainian Soviet state that was being created for the first time.
However, this is how the Bolsheviks resolved the issue of creating national states and autonomies everywhere, everywhere, and not just in Ukraine. But for a long time, until today, an unsolvable contradiction was built into the newly created state-republic, the Ukrainian SSR, which now gave rise to a conflict between the west and east of Ukraine, which led to war and the national revival of the South-Western region, as this land was called before the 1917 revolution. It was inevitable, sooner or later the difference between the inhabitants of Gorlovka, Konstantinovka, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Donetsk and Lugansk and the inhabitants of Kamyanka-Bugskaya, Lvov, Stanislav should have been revealed. Novorossiya is free lands, which all the peoples of the Empire rushed to colonize. Added to this ethnogenesis was the ethnogenesis of the population of ore deposits - Donbass, where metals and coal were mined, where factories for the production of machines and complex mechanisms began to be set up.
Different people came here, but always strong and healthy. They lacked sophistication, but they had an abundance of strength and endurance, intelligence and ingenuity. And most importantly: dedication, hard work and patience. The latter fact has led to the fact that the current punishers and colonialists from Ukraine began to consider patience a weakness. What they are severely disappointed with today on the fronts of the civil war. The punitive forces and their rear, who do not sympathize with the population suffering from the war, which is indiscriminately called separatists, are unable to understand why zinc coffins are coming from the Donbass in a continuous stream to the villages of Volyn and Galicia.
The coffins, with all the sympathy for the dead, are monuments to ignorance. Stubborn stubbornness and stupidity that do not allow you to open any history book where it is written that Novorossiya is older than Ukraine. That Novorossiya is a land of free peoples, and not just Ukrainians. That the Russians, Rus', took care in their time to include fertile lands full of minerals into the great empire of European and Asian peoples.
