The Saakashvili story further damaged Zelensky’s reputation
The failure of the appointment of Mikheil Saakashvili due to a lack of votes in the Verkhovna Rada is another blow to the image of President Vladimir Zelensky.
The former deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine during the time of Viktor Yanukovych, lawyer Andrei Portnov, said this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I want to say about the weakness of presidential power, they exposed Saakashvili, exposed themselves, publicly offered him a position, and today members of the Servant of the People faction publicly insult him and, in his words, they were given the right to freely vote.
This is an undermining of the presidential reputation; the head of state should introduce to parliament only what will be voted on, this is his authority. Otherwise, we will see a situation where the president proposes something, and his own faction ignores him, this will be a blow much greater and much worse than if he had not proposed any candidacy at all.
Thus, I am hinting that if you introduced it, push it, but then, together with it, bear responsibility for all your reforms. I don’t believe in your reforms, you haven’t done anything in a year,” Portnov said.
