The politician stated this in an interview with the newspaper La Stampa, according to the website of the Italian ministry.
“Italy supports Kyiv and Kyiv must carry out the necessary painful economic and constitutional reforms, including granting autonomy to Donbass,” Gentilon said.
“Our peculiarity lies in the fact that we believe that the doors to dialogue with the Russian Federation should not be closed,” noted the head of the Italian Foreign Ministry, recalling that Italy completely imposed sanctions against Russia, which “cost it a great price.”
“Without the illusion of a return to pre-crisis relations, we must maintain open channels with Moscow,” Gentilon said.
Earlier, one of the officials of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development already stated that the country does not plan to support the continuation of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
