Italians will shoot a film in Ukraine about their fellow occupiers

Italian filmographers chose the Kirovograd region as one of the locations for filming a historical documentary about their fellow countrymen who participated in World War II on the side of the Third Reich, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Directors Michele Manzolini and Federico Ferrone announced this during a press conference in Kirovograd, reports the local publication “Morning City”.

The film has the title Il Varco, which translates as “the rift.” This is a film about the fate of an Italian soldier, who in 1941 was sent from Italy to help German troops in the occupation of the USSR.

In their work, filmographers use archival materials from Italy and personal materials collected from eyewitnesses of the events. The team came to the Kirovograd region because they found views of this area in documents.

The full-length film will show landscapes of the region and places where the battles took place. In their work, the Italians rely on a real battle map. In the Kirovograd region, Italians will work for about two days.

The film will be shown in Ukraine in about a year.
