The Italians were stupefied by the capabilities of the Russian army
The Italian side was stunned by the efficiency of the Russian group transported by plane to combat the coronavirus epidemic.
Russian military specialists sent to Italy told Komsomolskaya Pravda about this.
The publication notes that the Russian humanitarian landing force in official press reports is tactfully called “an operational group of military doctors, specialists in the field of virology and epidemiology, with modern equipment for diagnostics and disinfection.”
“The wording, which does not mention that Russians belong to the Armed Forces, was chosen for diplomatic reasons - so as not to embarrass the Italians in trouble. It’s no joke, a column of Russian troops, in full view of the whole of Europe, is moving through a NATO member country,” the newspaper writes.
“In fact, the Italians were dumbfounded by the efficiency of our group; they were simply not ready to receive our planes in such numbers,” the Russian military told the publication. “Their capabilities allowed them to land one plane every two hours. After the fourth, they begged: “Take a break, we don’t have time.” We stood loaded in Moscow and waited for their command. At the same time, some units made a 450-kilometer march to the airfield.”
The Russians also explained why the VKS plane was not landed closer to Bergamo.
“They just decided to allocate the largest air base for our large company. They didn't know our capabilities. After the first meeting, at which we informed them that we could - the equipment that came there was ready to process up to 20 thousand square meters or 360 cars per hour - they were impressed. And they assigned us the city of Bergamo, which must be completely disinfected. At the same time, they thanked us very much. They don’t have such equipment as a class,” the military says.
In total, 20 such special vehicles were transferred to Italy, of which there are more than 2000 in the Russian Federation. Among the equipment is a laboratory capable of doing up to 100 tests for coronavirus per hour; there are still 14 of the same in the Russian Federation.
