“The subject of the referendum – Senate reform – is considered not so important in itself, but Renzi’s promise to resign in case of defeat gave fundamental importance to the vote,” the publication notes. “According to experts, the composition and powers of the Senate in themselves are not so important for society, but citizens dissatisfied with the influx of immigrants from the Middle East and economic stagnation were given the opportunity to express dissatisfaction with the government.”

“The campaign under the slogan “Say No” was led by the anti-immigrant party Northern League and the populist Five Star movement of former comedian Beppe Grillo, which calls for a referendum on abandoning the euro,” recalls the BBC. – One of the leaders of the Five Stars, Luigi Di Maio, has already stated that the movement is ready to take over the management of the country. “From tomorrow we will begin work on creating a Five Star government,” he said. Northern League leader Matteo Salvini called the referendum results “a victory of the people against the powerful forces of three-quarters of the world” and called for early elections to be held immediately.”

It is also worth noting that the Five Stars and the Northern League are actively advocating the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions.
