Italian observer: In Donbass I saw a territory of freedom and courage
The primaries that took place today are an important step towards building the state and independence of the Donbass republics. This opinion was expressed at a briefing in Donetsk by Maurizio Marone, an international observer of the primaries from Italy.

“Today, during the primaries, I was able to see a very interesting process in which the people participated. A process that the people celebrated as a holiday. Whole families gathered, children performed at concerts, and their parents voted. I visited different sites and made sure that everything was carried out according to international standards and without violations.
I was able to observe the entire process in great detail. What happened today is a very important step in building the state and achieving independence. I want to emphasize that everywhere I was, especially in those areas that are located close to the contact line, people voluntarily came to the elections as if it were a holiday, no one forced them, everything was open and spontaneous.
Here I saw the territory of freedom, courage, the desire to be free and decide my own future. What I saw today does not in any way correspond to the information from various media about “Russian aggression” in the region.
It was very nice to see the pride with which people came and voted. After all, many of the polling stations where elections were held were previously destroyed by shelling, and then rebuilt anew, precisely by these people.
I think Italy, and in particular Piedmont, where I come from, as well as the whole of Europe, should learn from the DPR, from the Donbass, how democratic the processes are here. The EU makes decisions for us, but here people decide their own fate,” said the Italian observer.
