A mass exodus of deputies began from the Poroshenko faction
Former Maidan journalist Mustafa Nayem, who became a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from President Poroshenko’s party, announced his resignation from the faction.
The corresponding statement was published on a social network, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I submitted an application to leave the BPP faction. This is a formality. We have long been on opposite sides of the value barricades. Recent events have only confirmed this. I came into politics after the revolution and I don’t even formally want to be associated with those who openly lead the counter-revolution,” Nayem wrote.
He also complained that in four and a half years he had heard the question “fifteen thousand times”: “Why are you in the BPP?”
“I had answers to this question, which, however, few seemed convincing. Now you don’t have to convince anyone of anything. This page has been turned,” the deputy announced.
Well-known Dnepropetrovsk blogger Max Buzhansky appreciated the timeliness of Nayem’s action.
“It’s very funny, but Mustafa Nayem decided to leave the BPP. I respect his courage and integrity, as soon as I suspected that something was wrong with the BPP, I immediately went out. He carefully slapped his mandate on the table, proudly flashed his bald head, and turned on his heels. Later there was simply no point,” Buzhansky wrote ironically in his Telegram channel.
In addition, following Nayem, statements about leaving the BPP were published on their pages by deputy Sergei Leshchenko and Svetlana Zalischuk.
Note that all three deputies are considered close to the US Embassy in Ukraine. It is worth noting that the departure from the faction of a deputy elected on the party list, according to the new Ukrainian legislation, allows the party to replace the fugitive with the next candidate on the list. At the same time, the current convocation of the Verkhovna Rada is completing its work this year - the next elections are coming up in September.
