A unique icon was stolen from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra
An unknown person stole the icon of St. George the Victorious from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra on the evening of September 26, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Kiev publication “Strana” reports this, citing sources in the National Police.
“As we learned from our sources in the National Police, the ministers noticed the loss and immediately turned to the security of the temple complex to look at the video recordings. The video showed a young man in a dark suit, with a suitcase on wheels, who took advantage of the moment when no one was watching him and slowly removed the icon from the wall,” the message says.
According to the publication, the police have already opened a criminal case under the article “Theft” and have begun a search for the criminal. Experts note that the icon was ancient and could be of interest to collectors.
This is not the first case of theft from the Kiev Pechersk Lavra - in May 2015, the icon of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos was stolen there.
