As Moldnews writes, the amendments are designed to “ensure the inclusion of the principle of equal opportunities for women and men in regulations and documents.”
The bill was introduced by the government at the initiative of the Democrats and adopted in accordance with the National Program for Gender Equality for 2010-2015 and the action plan for its implementation for 2013-2015.
In 2010, the Council of Europe recommended that European countries remove the words “father” and “mother” from official documents as a manifestation of sexism.
In June 2014, Moldova entered into an association agreement with the European Union, and ratified the document in July. Previously, the Republic of Moldova received a visa-free regime with the EU.
