More than a million refugees are pouring into the EU from devastated Libya
Thousands of refugees from Libya and other African countries are heading to Italy and Greece to escape the war and devastation caused by the civil war and the intervention of NATO countries. The situation is such that even despite hundreds of drowned people in recent days, the flow of refugees trying to reach EU countries through the Mediterranean Sea is not decreasing. This is reported German economic news.

The publication writes that a “real exodus” from Libya to Europe is beginning. More than a million refugees could cross the Mediterranean in an attempt to reach the EU, according to German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizières. Even the high danger to life does not stop them. So, on Sunday, an old fishing boat sank off the coast of Italy, with 950 refugees in its hold. Most of them died.
“This is a real outcome,” said Elmar Brock, head of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. Rescue of refugees from the Mediterranean is extremely important, in his opinion, but cannot only take place at sea. “Nobody reports,” said Elmar Brock, “that more people are probably dying in the Sahara than in the Mediterranean.” The organizers of the transportation have arranged the supply of refugees from the depths of Africa to the devastated Libya, in whose territory there is now no unified government, and the country is divided into spheres of influence.
German economic news writes: “The actions of European politicians, however, are insignificant: the refugee disaster in the Mediterranean was provoked four years ago. In February 2011, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi threatened the Europeans: if they continue to support the fight against him in Libya, he will open the way through Libya to the EU for refugees from Africa. EU foreign ministers responded to this threat with outrage. However, then Maltese Foreign Minister Tonio Borg warned that we must take Gaddafi's threat seriously because Libya is the key country keeping African refugees in the EU. From Tripoli to Sicily 500 km, and to the Italian island of Lampedusa 300 km.”
European politicians are now beginning to speak well of the murdered Gaddafi. “Gaddafi was a dictator. But he organized certain rules and procedures. Now we have a mess with militias,” said European Commissioner Günter Oetinger. German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer supports his colleague: “What we are experiencing now is the result of a military operation that has engulfed Libya, which has displaced everything.”
The G7 foreign ministers agreed at their meeting that the refugee problem can only be solved by solving the Libya problem, but no one now knows how to do this.
The dangers emanating from the burning Libya constantly threaten Europe. Just a few hundred kilometers from the EU borders, a territory has formed with the absence of centralized power and constant war. For example, ISIS militants can enter Europe under the guise of refugees. The sheer number of refugees who will try to get into the European Union even at the cost of their own lives could reach 2 million people or more in the near future. Now bringing refugees from Africa to the EU is a big international business.
