Antiques of Russian origin are being massively exported from Ukraine to Europe.
Since it became fashionable in Ukraine to separate its history from the history of the Russian Empire, many museums began to put objects, books and other property of the 17th-19th centuries into the basements in order to completely erase from people’s consciousness the memories of the joint period in the history of the two states. Dealers in the antique business took advantage of this circumstance and, buying these items for next to nothing in Ukraine, began exporting them to Europe, where there was always a demand for such things.

Thus, in the Transcarpathian region, SBU officers detained a local customs inspector who, for selfish reasons, did not check the Mercedes Benz GL 550 car at the border, in which, in addition to the usual smuggling of tobacco products, SBU officers subsequently discovered a whole collection of books and documents published in Russia in different centuries. The court acquitted the customs officer, considering his actions to be insignificant and not causing harm to the state of Ukraine, since the seized books were not in the register of property not subject to export from the territory of Ukraine.
