This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by Fedor Kozlov, managing partner of the Chicago law firm Law Office of Fedor Kozlov & Associates.
“The court did not take advantage of the procedural rule allowing it to consider the case in a simplified manner at the preliminary stage. This step is resorted to if the plaintiff’s position is not supported by sufficient grounds. If Kyiv refuses to recognize the court verdict, this could lead to the imposition of penalties on Ukraine's assets in the UK. Failure by Kiev to comply with the decision of the High Court of London may also deny Ukraine access to credit resources from British banks, or a penalty may be imposed on funds already allocated,” the lawyer said.
