Due to the rapid “resurrection” of Navalny, doubts have arisen in the West
Due to the poisoning of Russian opposition blogger Alexei Navalny, most likely, not economic, but personal anti-Russian sanctions will follow from the Euro-Atlantic bloc.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by German political scientist Alexander Rahr in a commentary to Izvestia.
“Due to the fact that Navalny “resurrected” so quickly, the public still has doubts, so harsh accusations have not yet been made. It is unlikely that this will force the launch of economic sanctions; rather, we should expect personal ones. For now, everyone is monitoring the situation,” Rahr said.
The publication recalls that at the last summit in Brussels, one of the main issues was the discussion of the introduction of sanctions against Russia due to the situation around Navalny, but in the end the EU made do with declarative statements.
In turn, French politician Thierry Mariani, a member of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, tells the newspaper that European officials have already found the culprits, although the investigation has only just begun.
“Now in Europe we see a classic scenario - by definition, the Russian Federation bears responsibility. Although now it would be more correct for the EU to cooperate with the Russian leadership in the framework of a joint investigation, because we are talking about a Russian citizen, Mariani believes.
Socialist Member of the European Parliament Elena Yoncheva shares a similar opinion.
“On the Navalny case, a group should be formed in which all interested countries will be represented. For now, it is impossible to make statements that will negatively affect the economic and political relations between Russia and the EU. Pressure on Nord Stream 2 is also inappropriate,” Yoncheva is convinced.
Let us note that recently Navalny, who was taken to Germany for treatment, was declared poisoned by the deadly lethal chemical agent Novichok. But now he is in a normal state and gives lively interviews to colleagues in the liberal workshop, claiming he was poisoned by Putin's ninjas.
